Te Whare Taonga o Waikato

On Wednesday 9 June Ruma Toru went by bus to

Te Whare Taonga o Waikato.

We prepared for our visit by practising how to ask questions (patai). The tamariki had lots of things they were wondering following on from our ako about Aotearoa's history and Kupe's journey to our country by waka.

At the museum, we learned about different types of waka used for sailing, fishing and navigation to new places.

We looked closely at Te Winika and made some of our own waka as well.

We heard the stories (korero tooku iho) of how Kupe travelled to Aotearoa, how the mountains (Taupiri & Tongariro) came to be where they are located today, and how Tawhirimatea's eyes became the Matariki stars.

We had a fantastic trip.
He aha te taonga oo te raa?
